We were delighted when we got to meet Nicole, the founder and creator of Personal Pours. She invited us to visit her and witness her process of making her beautiful handstand props in NYC in August 2021.
She told us all about the unique pieces of wood she collects to make these one-of-a-kind handmade props that resemble works of art, but also serve a function. There was one particular type of wood that fascinated us from the beginning:
Burl
It’s found as an outgrowth of a tree and it forms knots and buds which give it its unique character. It’s like a tumor of a tree, Nicole told us. Every piece
of burl is distinct and only exists once, just like every person on this planet. The idea for the nook burl and resin handstand blocks by Personal Pours was born.

"These ambrosia burl + resin handstand blocks were designed exclusively in partnership with the beautiful faces behind Nook Movement Studios, Sonja and Ivo. I had the pleasure of meeting the dynamic duo back in August 2021, where I got to show them the magic behind creating handstand props. The way their eyes lit up when I showed them a piece of burl was the exact reaction I had when I saw my first piece, pure fascination. Right after that, we began discussing design ideas and color schemes to come up with the most unique yet functional set of blocks."

Each block is handcrafted out of high quality cuts of wood and individually poured live resin. Small variations in colors, wood grain and small blemishes are inevitable in our process and part of what makes each piece one of a kind.
